Winthrop Paroo

Winthrop in the 1962 movie. Portrayed by Ron Howard.

Winthrop Paroo is ten years old. He lives with his mother, Mrs. Paroo, and his sister, Marian Paroo. He has a lisp that made him shy and self-conscious, but Harold Hill's boys' band helped him to open up.

Role in The Music Man[]

Winthrop arrived at his home one night during Amaryllis' piano lesson. Amaryllis asked him to a party she would hold on the coming Saturday. He told her he didn't want to go. She teased him about his lisp, causing him to run away.

Winthrop went to the Fourth of July festivities with Marian.

Winthrop sings part of 'The Wells Fargo Wagon'.

Winthrop sings 'Gary, Indiana', a song about the hometown of Harold Hill, in the 1962 film, the original is sung by Hill, with Winthrop given a reprise of the song.

Winthrop is given many lines that have many 'S'es in the 1962 film, although it is fairly subtle.
